Yesterday I fled to the shopping mall
I parked at the back against the wall.
My hat blew off, I tripped and fell.
My arm was bleeding and started to swell.
But I had gifts to buy and wrap
I had fallen into the purchasing trap.
Will I get the gifts I could afford?
I am so stressed, please help me Lord.
Wait – is this what Christmas is about?
Squeals and deals and getting burned out?
Forgive me Lord for forgetting today
That your love is what I need to display.
Not gifts, nor treats nor a perfect house
Not foods to delight my guests and spouse!
But a gentle, peaceful, joyful face
That shows your love and sweetness and grace!
Thank you for sharing your heart again. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of shopping, entertaining, baking and rushing here and there, and totally forgetting to take the time to lean back into Abba's arms of rest and peace and soak in the Presence of His Love. Evelyn
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said. Thank you for the reminder to stay centered on Jesus. Crazy, isn't it, how during the season that is meant to be most about Him, we find ourselves the most distracted away from Him.
ReplyDeleteYes, my friends, it sure can be a trap. It's Saturday morning and I'm sitting here thinking, "What am I going to buy so and so for Christmas?" Then the cashflow dilemma enters into it and on it goes! Thanks for the comments. Jesus, we invite you to be our all in all!!!!
